I have an open Vice President Controller position in my department, my current VP Controller is moving to North Carolina with her husband as he starts his new career. Position Description IFS Financial Services, a subsidiary of Western & Southern Financial Group, has an immediate opportunity for a
Vice President - Controller.

Summary of Responsibilities

Manages, directs and leads a team of exempt and non-exempt associates accountable for providing the financial reporting, financial operations and product and associate commission processing and payment for multiple financial subsidiaries of Western & Southern Financial Group. Enhance bottom line profit by developing measurements and financial reports by business unit, product, department and entity for the same Western & Southern Financial Group subsidiaries. Monitors costs and expenses and recommends cost savings, improves efficiencies/stream-lines processes and provides senior management with financial reports to help with management of the day-to-day business, within subsidiaries

Position Requirements Position Responsibilities
•Manages, directs and leads a team of exempt and non-exempt individuals accountable for providing the financial reporting, financial operations and commission processing for multiple financial subsidiaries of Western & Southern Financial Group.
•Oversees all the day-to-day financial reporting responsibilities for the supported subsidiaries to include ledger work, income statements and balance sheets, account reconciliation’s, financial statement preparation, review and distribution of financial data, departmental expense analysis, actual to plan analyses with variance explanations, scorecard preparation and explanations and various other financial reports and analyses.
•Oversees all the day-to-day financial operations responsibilities for the supported subsidiaries to include cash movement and control, cash flow statements, accounts receivable and accounts payable, variable annuity and fixed annuity commission payments, commission payments to employees, sales reporting, special request and various other operational functions.
•Oversees all the day-to-day commission processing for the products and associates for the different distribution channels within the supported subsidiaries.
•Develops and implements performance standards, measures and metrics used to measure the different lines of business and entities of responsibility.
•Maintains a strong focus on controls, recommending, implementing and monitoring cost improvements that enhance the bottom line.
•Develops, recommends and implements process changes that positively effect workflow and maximize efficiencies.
•Recommends cost saving synergies across supported subsidiaries to enhance bottom line financial results.
•Assumes responsibility for insuring the integrity of all financial data.
•Joint responsibility for the regulatory filings required by the SEC and NASD as well as financial audits required by same.
•Monitors actual financial results compared to plan and make recommendations to enhance the bottom line implementing and monitoring recommendations if approved.
•Ensures proper internal controls are in place throughout the subsidiaries to safeguard assets.
•Assist Subsidiary and W&SFG senior management with financial reports, analyses and special requests to help manage and grow the business.
•Corresponds with W&SFG accounting and tax departments.
•Recruits, hires, trains and develops staff. Provides direction to and development of associates through daily coaching, the administration of the Performance Management Program, and the creation and implementation of development plans.
•Stays current on trends in our business, networking and being aware of our competitor’s strategies and major operation initiatives.
•Develops and executes strategic initiatives in their operation that give us a competitive edge.
•Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Selection Criteria
•Possesses and demonstrates a strong working knowledge, understanding and experience utilizing GAAP accounting rules and regulations.
•Strong presentations skills with the ability to articulate simple and reasonable solutions to complex questions and issues to all levels of management.
•Demonstrated substantial experience directing a corporate accounting function and team of professionals within the investment/financial services industry to the successful and continuous attainment of established goals and objectives.
•Proven in-depth understanding, knowledge of and experience working with Broker Dealers, Investment Advisors, Private Equity and Money Management Firms.
•Possesses strong leadership skills in the areas of motivation, coaching, personal development of subordinates and change management.
•Demonstrated experience successfully managing financial projects to completion requiring the use of complex problem solving skills.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience communicating to and influencing opinions of large groups.
•Proven experience handling multiple priorities within a fast paced financial environment that supports multiple businesses at one time.
•Proven ability to solve complex problems and provides creative solutions.

IV. Educational Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Masters with a concentration in Accounting

V. Computer skills and knowledge of hardware & software required
•Proficient in excel, working knowledge of word processing applications, presentation software and data base software.
•Demonstrated experience and familiarity with accounting packages / software

VI. Certifications & licenses (i.e. Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.)
•CPA with all CPE requirements current
•Series 27 license a plus

Position demands
•Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects
